New York, NY – A coastal nor’easter will sweep across New York starting Wednesday, drenching the state with 1 to 2 inches of rain and sending wind gusts up to 30 mph along the coast through Thursday night.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, the heaviest rainfall is expected Wednesday night into Thursday evening, with lingering showers possible into Friday as the low-pressure system exits the region. Light to moderate rainfall will be the norm, but minor nuisance flooding is possible, especially across eastern Long Island and southeast Connecticut.

New York City could see around 1.43 inches of rain, with similar totals in White Plains, Cold Spring, and New Haven. Higher localized amounts are likely in areas like Islip and Southampton. Winds from the east to northeast will pick up late Wednesday, with gusts topping 25–30 mph near coastal areas before shifting north and weakening Thursday night.

Drivers should prepare for slick roads during the Thursday morning and evening commutes, particularly on the I-95 corridor and major Long Island routes. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during peak rain, and keep devices charged in case of minor outages.

Rain chances taper off by Friday morning, but more advisories are possible if the storm’s path shifts.
