New York Winter Storm Warning: Up to 2 Inches of Snow Per Hour Expected Saturday in Northern Oneida County

Binghamton, NY – Upstate New York is bracing for significant snowfall this weekend, with a Winter Storm Warning in effect from Friday afternoon through Saturday for northern Oneida County. Residents in areas including Camden and Rome could see heavy lake effect snow, with rates of up to 2 inches per hour possible.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Binghamton, the warning is in place until 4 p.m. Saturday, with snowfall totals ranging from 8 to 18 inches in northern areas. Hazardous road conditions are expected on major roadways, including I-90 and Route 69, as snow bands intensify. Motorists are advised to avoid non-essential travel and keep an emergency kit in their vehicles.

Lake effect snow will start this evening and become more organized overnight into Saturday. Areas near Lake Ontario, particularly northern Oneida County, will bear the brunt of the storm. A Winter Weather Advisory has also been issued for southern portions of the county, with snowfall between 3 and 6 inches expected.

Temperatures will remain below freezing, with highs near 31°F on Saturday. Another system is forecast to bring lighter snow to central New York late Saturday night into Sunday. Accumulations of 1 to 4 inches are predicted for areas such as Ithaca and Syracuse.

The extended forecast calls for a mix of rain and snow Monday, with temperatures climbing to 44°F, followed by a colder system midweek. Prepare for icy roads and monitor updates at weather.gov/bgm for the latest advisories.
