Marquette, MI – A band of snow is pressing into Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula today, creating hazardous conditions on major roadways, including US-41. Residents and commuters are urged to drive cautiously, as visibility may be reduced, and roads will likely be slick. The snowfall is expected to weaken later this afternoon but could still pose challenges through the evening.

According to the National Weather Service, additional lake effect snow will develop tonight and into Saturday morning, accompanied by freezing rain in some areas. The Keweenaw Peninsula and surrounding regions could see snow accumulation of up to 2 inches today, while temperatures remain in the low 20s. Winds reaching 20 mph will exacerbate the cold and driving conditions.

Saturday brings an even more complex forecast with freezing rain and snow expected between noon and evening hours. Ice buildup could make roadways treacherous, especially in shaded areas and bridges. Winds will ease slightly, but temperatures will climb into the mid-30s, increasing the likelihood of mixed precipitation.

Looking ahead, rain and snow showers are likely Sunday and Monday across the Upper Peninsula. Highs will hover around the low 30s, with overnight lows dropping into the teens. Tuesday continues the wintry trend, with snow showers and highs near 29 degrees.

Drivers are advised to check local forecasts before heading out and equip vehicles with emergency supplies in case of delays.
