Buffalo, NY – Cool, gray skies are lingering across much of western and central New York today as scattered light rain brushes through the Finger Lakes, Southern Tier, and areas east of Lake Ontario.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, cloud cover will dominate most of Thursday, with the best chances for measurable rain occurring in cities like Ithaca, Elmira, and Syracuse. A few light showers may pass through Rochester and Jamestown before partial clearing arrives by late afternoon. High temperatures will stall in the low to mid-50s for most lower elevations, while upper 40s are expected in higher terrain — roughly 10 degrees below seasonal averages.

A north to northeast breeze between 8 to 16 mph may add a further chill, especially near the lakeshores and in open areas. Residents should consider jackets and umbrellas for midday errands, especially in the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier.

Drying conditions are expected into the evening, but another round of unsettled weather could arrive by the weekend. Stay tuned for additional updates from the NWS as patterns continue to shift.
