Binghamton, N.Y. – Flooding is becoming a growing concern across parts of New York, Pennsylvania, and the broader Northeast, with more than an inch of rain likely in many areas through 8 a.m. Saturday. Communities from the Catskills to the Poconos could see the heaviest rainfall begin by Thursday night and continue into Friday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a developing low-pressure system will intensify over the Mid-Atlantic late Thursday, tracking northeast into New England by early Saturday. This system is expected to produce prolonged, heavy rainfall, particularly across eastern Pennsylvania and upstate New York, where probabilities for over an inch of rain exceed 50% in cities like Oneonta, Scranton, and Kingston.

Roadway flooding, reduced visibility, and rising streams are all possible, especially in low-lying areas and near small creeks. Motorists are urged to avoid water-covered roads, and residents should charge devices and check sump pumps in case of localized power outages or basement flooding.

Rain chances taper by Saturday afternoon, but flood alerts may continue into the weekend. Stay tuned for updates as the storm progresses and additional advisories may be issued.
