Cincinnati, OH – Residents across northern Kentucky, southern Ohio, and southern Indiana should prepare for a volatile Thursday afternoon and evening as strong thunderstorms with torrential rain, hail, and damaging winds move through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, OH, the highest risk for severe storms will occur between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. EDT. The storms are expected to develop along a cold front, bringing the potential for localized flooding, especially in low-lying or urban areas.

Cities including Covington, Cincinnati, and Jeffersonville are likely to experience repeated rounds of heavy rain. The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of the Ohio Valley under a marginal to slight risk for severe weather, with large hail and wind gusts over 50 mph possible.

Drivers should be cautious on I-71, I-75, and I-64, where ponding and reduced visibility could create hazardous travel conditions during the evening commute. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and avoid flooded roadways. Storms are expected to taper off later tonight as the front clears the area. However, additional watches or warnings may be issued if new storm cells develop.
