Binghamton, NY – A fast-moving weather system will bring rain turning to snow across Binghamton today, with slick roads possible into the evening. Drivers and residents should prepare for rapidly changing conditions as temperatures drop.
According to the National Weather Service, rain will arrive early Wednesday afternoon and transition to snow by evening. Most areas will see snow accumulations of an inch or less, but localized lake effect snow tonight could bring up to two inches, especially north of I-90 and into Tug Hill. Light winds and temperatures near freezing will add to potential hazards for travelers.
Conditions will improve briefly on Thursday, with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 34 degrees. A slight chance of early morning flurries will give way to calm weather before another system impacts the region heading into Friday. Snow showers are expected Friday afternoon into the night, with accumulations nearing an additional 1 to 2 inches.
For the weekend, temperatures will drop significantly, with highs struggling to reach the mid-20s. Saturday brings a chance of snow showers, particularly in areas prone to lake effect, while Sunday offers a mix of clouds and partial sun with a high of 18 degrees. Overnight lows this weekend will plummet into the single digits, increasing the risk of icy roadways.
Residents should plan accordingly by allowing extra travel time, dressing in layers, and monitoring updates from local authorities. If driving, reduce speed on wet or snowy roads, especially along major highways like I-90.
Stay tuned for ongoing weather updates as conditions evolve throughout the week.
