New York, NY – A fire weather alert is in effect Thursday for New York City and the Lower Hudson Valley as dry air and gusty winds create dangerous conditions. Following this brief risk period, sunny skies and rising spring temperatures will take over, leading into a warm and mostly dry weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, relative humidity will drop to 20–25% Thursday, with winds gusting between 20 and 25 mph. This combination will significantly increase the chance of fire spread, particularly in open or grassy areas. Residents should avoid using open flames, discard cigarettes properly, and delay outdoor burning. The warning applies especially to areas along I-87 and I-495, where dry vegetation and traffic can worsen risks.

Thursday will be sunny with a high near 59°F, shifting toward clear skies Thursday night and lows around 46°F. Winds will taper off overnight, but caution remains vital until conditions fully stabilize.

By Friday, spring takes hold with highs near 62°F and mostly sunny skies. Saturday brings the peak warmth, with highs soaring to 77°F. Expect mostly cloudy skies Saturday night into Easter Sunday, but no major rain is forecast.

Extended Spring 5-Day Outlook:

  • Friday: Partly sunny, high 62°F
  • Saturday: Mostly cloudy, high 77°F
  • Sunday (Easter): Partly sunny, high 63°F
  • Monday: Mostly sunny, slight chance of evening showers, high 59°F
