Denver, CO – A winter storm watch has been issued for Colorado’s high country, with heavy snowfall and strong winds expected to create dangerous travel conditions through early Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Denver, the storm is forecast to begin Thursday evening and continue through late Friday night. Areas above 9,000 feet, including Rabbit Ears Pass, Berthoud Pass, and Rocky Mountain National Park, could receive between 7 and 16 inches of snow. Winds may gust up to 45 mph, significantly reducing visibility on mountain roadways.

The affected zones include Summit County, the Indian Peaks, and the Mosquito and Gore Ranges. Travel across the I-70 mountain corridor may become hazardous, particularly through the Eisenhower Tunnel and nearby ski communities such as Breckenridge and Winter Park.

Residents and travelers are urged to monitor cotrip.org for updates on road conditions, closures, and traction law requirements. Colorado Department of Transportation crews are preparing for plow operations and advise carrying winter travel kits if driving is necessary.

Snowfall may disrupt Friday morning and evening commutes. This system could rival early April snow totals for the region, especially in elevations above 10,000 feet. Motorists should delay nonessential travel and prepare for changing weather conditions.
