Buffalo, NY – A high wind watch has been issued for much of Western New York, with gusts of up to 60 mph expected Monday. The advisory affects Erie, Niagara, Monroe, Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, and Chautauqua counties.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo, the strongest winds are expected in the Niagara Frontier region, beginning Monday morning and continuing through late Monday night. Sustained southwest winds of 30 to 40 mph could result in downed trees and power lines, leading to scattered power outages.

Travelers, especially those operating high-profile vehicles, may face hazardous conditions on open highways and bridges.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items such as patio furniture and trash bins to prevent them from being blown away. The NWS recommends monitoring local forecasts for updates and preparing for potential disruptions.

The high wind watch will remain in effect until early Tuesday morning, with conditions expected to ease gradually. For safety updates and preparedness tips, visit the National Weather Service’s website or your local emergency management office.
