Albany, NY – A winter weather advisory is in effect as snow is set to sweep through northern Herkimer and Hamilton Counties starting tonight. Forecasters predict up to 8 inches of snow in higher elevations of the Adirondacks, with lighter accumulations for surrounding areas.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory begins at 1 a.m. Sunday and lasts through 1 a.m. Monday. Snowfall rates could reduce visibility and create hazardous travel conditions on major roadways, including Route 28 and I-87. Residents are urged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
The weekend will remain cold, with high temperatures peaking in the low 30s today and dipping to 17 degrees overnight. Sunday will bring snow showers by afternoon and winds gusting up to 28 mph. These conditions will persist into Monday, with additional light snow accumulations possible.
Looking ahead, temperatures will remain cold through midweek. Monday is expected to see a high of 35 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Tuesday and Wednesday will be cloudy with daytime highs in the low 30s and a chance for snow showers by Wednesday.
Travelers and outdoor enthusiasts should exercise caution, especially near frozen water bodies. While ice may appear stable, officials remind the public that no ice is entirely safe. Stay informed by checking local weather updates and heeding warnings.
