Burlington, VT – A cold weather advisory is in effect for portions of northern New York, Vermont, and Maine from midnight Saturday through Sunday morning, as wind chills are expected to plummet to as low as 25 below zero.

According to the National Weather Service, dangerously cold temperatures will impact areas including Northern Oneida County in New York, St. Lawrence and Franklin Counties in Vermont, and Northern Oxford and Franklin Counties in Maine. The advisory remains active until 11 a.m. Sunday, with the coldest conditions expected in the early morning hours.

Residents in affected areas should take precautions against frostbite and hypothermia. Wind chills this low can cause frostbite on exposed skin within 30 minutes. The National Weather Service advises wearing layered clothing, hats, and gloves when venturing outdoors.

Travelers should exercise caution, as extreme cold can impact vehicle performance and road conditions. Those who must travel are urged to carry emergency supplies, including blankets and extra clothing.

This latest cold snap comes as winter continues to bring below-average temperatures to the Northeast. Officials urge residents to monitor updates and take necessary safety measures to protect themselves from the extreme cold.
