New York, N.Y. – A refreshing break from midsummer heat is settling across the New York City metropolitan area tonight, with temperatures falling 5 to 10 degrees below normal for mid-July. Some inland communities and portions of the Long Island Pine Barrens could wake up to readings in the lower 50s before sunshine returns Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in New York, overnight lows will range from the low to mid-50s across interior sections of the Hudson Valley and southern Connecticut to the upper 50s and lower 60s around New York City. Long Island will generally remain in the lower to middle 60s, although the Pine Barrens could briefly dip into the low 50s under ideal cooling conditions.
Communities such as Liberty, Poughkeepsie, Middletown, Danbury and Waterbury are expected to see overnight lows between 53 and 55 degrees, while White Plains falls to around 59 degrees. New York City is forecast to bottom out near 62 degrees, with Newark around 61 degrees and coastal locations including Montauk remaining milder in the mid-60s.
Monday will feature another stretch of dry, sunny weather with comfortable humidity. Afternoon highs are expected to reach the upper 70s to lower 80s, including 80 degrees in New York City, 81 in White Plains, 81 in Bridgeport, 81 in New Haven, 82 in Hartford, and generally 80 to 83 degrees across Long Island.
The cooler overnight temperatures will offer a welcome opportunity to open windows and reduce air conditioning use before warmer weather gradually returns later in the week. No hazardous weather is expected through Monday, making it an ideal day for outdoor activities across the region.
