New York, NY – The National Weather Service has issued widespread High Wind Watches across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, including New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Vermont, from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.
Forecasters warn that west winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 60–65 mph, could cause widespread power outages, downed trees, and hazardous travel conditions. The watches cover major metro areas including New York City, Hartford, Albany, Allentown, Scranton, and Binghamton, as well as Long Island and coastal Connecticut.
According to the National Weather Service offices in New York City, Albany, Mount Holly, and Binghamton, the strongest winds are expected Wednesday evening through early Thursday, with isolated gusts exceeding 65 mph in higher terrain and along exposed coastal areas.
High-profile vehicles may experience dangerous crosswinds on I-80, I-87, I-90, and the New Jersey Turnpike, and air travel delays are likely at JFK, Newark, and LaGuardia Airports.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, avoid parking under trees, and prepare for potential outages by keeping flashlights and batteries ready. Winds should begin to ease by midday Thursday, though cleanup and restoration may continue into the evening.
