Albuquerque, NM – New Mexico is bracing for a prolonged heatwave, with temperatures expected to approach or exceed record highs this week. The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued an alert for near-record warmth, particularly across the southern, central, and eastern regions of the state. Daily highs are anticipated to soar well above 100 degrees, with some areas possibly exceeding 102 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service, a slight downtick in shower and thunderstorm activity is expected Sunday and Monday. However, precipitation chances will increase from Tuesday through Friday as moisture returns to the region. Despite these rain chances, temperatures will remain high, with persistent dry air moving in from the west by Saturday.
Residents are urged to take precautions against heat-related illnesses, such as staying hydrated, taking breaks in the shade, and avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours. The National Weather Service has also reminded the public of the dangers of leaving children or pets in vehicles, where temperatures can rapidly reach deadly levels.
