Trenton, NJ – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Central and Southern New Jersey this Friday, effective from 4:05 PM EDT until 9:00 PM EDT, due to the threat of damaging winds.

Scattered thunderstorms are predicted to move through the region, with isolated wind gusts reaching up to 65 mph as a primary threat. The watch area is roughly 60 miles north and south of a line from 40 miles west-southwest of Dover, DE, to 20 miles north-northeast of Lakehurst, NJ.

According to the NWS Storm Prediction Center, the storms could also bring extreme turbulence and hail up to 1 inch in diameter. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch indicates that conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms, which can occasionally result in tornadoes.
