Paterson, NJ – A fatal early morning hit-and-run involving a pedestrian has prompted New Jersey State Police to ask for the public’s help in identifying a fleeing driver on Interstate 80.
According to the New Jersey State Police, the incident occurred Wednesday at approximately 2:55 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of I-80 near milepost 59.5 in Paterson, Passaic County. Authorities allege that an unidentified large commercial vehicle or tractor-trailer struck a pedestrian and then continued without stopping.
The pedestrian, whose identity has not yet been released, sustained fatal injuries at the scene. The vehicle involved remains unidentified, and investigators are working to determine further details about the incident and the driver responsible.
Troopers from Troop “B” Totowa Station are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash—or observed anything suspicious leading up to or following the event—to contact their Detective Bureau at (973)-785-9412. Authorities confirm that anonymous tips are welcome.
The investigation remains active, and police continue to canvass the area for surveillance footage and potential leads.
