Trenton, NJ – A tornado watch has been issued for much of New Jersey, effective until 2 p.m. EDT Friday, as severe weather threatens the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) has placed the state under alert as a warm front moving northward creates conditions favorable for the development of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms.

The NWS predicts that isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms will emerge throughout the morning and into the early afternoon. Some of these storms may develop into supercells, which are capable of producing tornadoes and isolated damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph.

The tornado watch area covers a wide region approximately 75 miles east and west of a line from Monticello, New York, to Patuxent River, Maryland. New Jersey residents are advised to stay informed and prepared to seek shelter if warnings are issued. The NWS emphasizes that a tornado watch indicates that conditions are conducive to the formation of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms, urging everyone to monitor local weather reports for ongoing updates.
