Hampton, NH – A Hampton man was taken into custody early Sunday after allegedly leading authorities on a high-speed pursuit through multiple communities in New Hampshire and Maine.

According to the New Hampshire State Police, the chase began around 2:20 a.m. when troopers responded to assist Hampton Police with a driver reportedly refusing to stop following a disturbance along Route 1. Officers identified the suspect as 48-year-old Jason J. Wagg, who fled the scene in a 2016 Jeep Compass and allegedly attempted to strike officers and cruisers during his escape.

Wagg allegedly drove westbound on Route 101 and then northbound on Interstate 95 at a high rate of speed. Troopers deployed tire deflation devices in Greenland, successfully damaging the vehicle’s tires. Despite this, the suspect continued through Portsmouth and into Kittery, Maine, crossing the Sarah Long Bridge.

Kittery Police took the lead in the pursuit until the Jeep came to a stop near the Route 1 town line between Kittery and York. Police say Wagg ran from the vehicle but was quickly apprehended with the help of multiple departments and a Portsmouth Police K9 unit. He was evaluated at a local hospital before being transported to the Rockingham County Department of Corrections.

Wagg is facing several charges, including disobeying a police officer, operating after suspension, reckless conduct, and breach of bail. Authorities also discovered he had a no-bail capias from Rockingham County Superior Court. Additional charges may be filed by both Hampton and Kittery police departments.

An arraignment is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2025. No booking photo was released as of Sunday.
