Lincoln, IL – Illinois faces an unsettled stretch of summer weather this week, with temperatures potentially reaching the low 90s before storm chances become more widespread Wednesday and continue through Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Central Illinois, several clusters of storms are expected to develop and move across the region over the next several days. Forecasters said the activity will initially focus on areas from eastern Iowa across northern Illinois and into Indiana.
Central Illinois will have lower storm chances at first. Monday’s forecast calls for highs ranging from 87 to 93 degrees, with the primary storm chance remaining north of Interstate 74.
Similar temperatures are expected Tuesday, with highs again between 87 and 93 degrees. Thunderstorm chances will continue mainly north of I-74 before the more active weather pattern shifts farther south.
By Wednesday, storms are expected to become more widespread across central Illinois. Temperatures are forecast to reach between 85 and 91 degrees.
Showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast Thursday as highs fall to between 79 and 86 degrees. Another round of showers and storms is possible Friday, when highs are expected to range from 77 to 83 degrees.
The National Weather Service said the best storm chances will gradually shift southward into all of central Illinois from Wednesday through Friday.
The repeated storm opportunities could affect outdoor plans and travel at times this week. The timing and intensity of individual storm clusters can change as they develop, making updated forecasts important for residents traveling across Illinois.
