North Platte, NE – A winter storm watch has been issued for much of Nebraska, with blizzard conditions possible from late Monday night through Tuesday night. The National Weather Service warns that strong winds and snowfall could create hazardous travel conditions across the state.
According to the National Weather Service in North Platte, the affected areas include central, north central, southwest, and west central Nebraska. Snow accumulations between 1 and 4 inches are possible, with wind gusts reaching up to 60 mph. These conditions could lead to whiteouts and dangerously slick roads, particularly during the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.
The storm is expected to move into western Nebraska late Monday night before expanding eastward throughout Tuesday. Areas such as North Platte, Valentine, O’Neill, and Broken Bow may experience periods of heavy snowfall combined with strong winds, which could cause tree damage and power outages.
Travelers are urged to prepare for deteriorating road conditions and potential delays. Officials recommend stocking emergency kits with food, water, and blankets if travel is necessary.
