North Platte, Nebraska – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 6 a.m. Saturday for portions of central, north-central, panhandle, and west-central Nebraska, where light snowfall is expected to create slippery travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in North Platte, snow accumulations of up to 2 inches are expected across affected areas, including Sheridan, Grant, Hooker, Thomas, Blaine, Loup, McPherson, Logan, Custer, and western Cherry counties. Communities impacted include Broken Bow, Gordon, Mullen, Thedford, Stapleton, Rushville, and Hyannis.

Snow began early Friday morning and is expected to continue at times through early Saturday. While snowfall totals are relatively light, untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses may become slick, particularly during the Friday morning and evening commutes.

Forecasters note that winds are expected to remain light, generally below 20 mph, which should limit blowing and drifting snow. However, reduced traction on snow-covered roadways may still pose travel hazards, especially on rural highways and secondary roads.

Residents are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling. Drivers should allow extra stopping distance and remain alert for changing road conditions.

The latest Nebraska road conditions are available by calling 511. Motorists are encouraged to check conditions before traveling, especially during early morning and evening hours.

Communities across central and north-central Nebraska should remain alert for winter driving conditions through early Saturday.
