Nashville, TN – A Nashville bicyclist was killed in a collision at the intersection of Jocelyn Hollow Road and Robin Hill Road on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m., claiming the life of Ronald Laird, 64, of Nashville.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Laird was traveling north on Robin Hill Road when he cycled through the stop sign and collided with the passenger door of an eastbound Kia Optima on Jocelyn Hollow Road. Notably, Jocelyn Hollow Road lacks a stop sign, unlike Robin Hill Road. Laird, who was wearing a helmet, was immediately transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to witnesses, the driver of the Kia Optima was traveling at the speed limit of 25 mph. Three other cyclists accompanying Laird reported that he ran the stop sign prior to the collision. Laird was the last in the group to attempt crossing the intersection.
The tragic accident underscores the need for increased caution at intersections, especially where traffic signs are not uniformly placed. Local authorities are urging cyclists and drivers alike to exercise heightened awareness and adhere to traffic signals to prevent further incidents.
This incident is a sobering reminder of the risks faced by cyclists and the importance of road safety for all.
