Naperville, IL – The Naperville Police Department is now accepting applications for its Fall 2026 Citizen Police Academy, giving residents an opportunity to learn about law enforcement operations through a 10-week interactive program.
According to the Naperville Police Department, applications for the Citizen Police Academy (CPA) must be submitted by Thursday, July 30. The program is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 2, and will run through Wednesday, Nov. 4.
The academy is designed to provide participants with an inside look at the department’s operations, practices and objectives. Instruction includes classroom presentations, interactive discussions and hands-on demonstrations covering a wide range of police responsibilities.
Topics include patrol operations, criminal investigations, forensic services and special response units, among other areas of law enforcement. The department says the program is intended to strengthen relationships between officers and the community while offering residents a better understanding of how local policing works.
Classes will be held every Wednesday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Naperville Police Department, 1350 Aurora Ave.
Residents interested in participating can find eligibility requirements and application information through the City of Naperville’s official website. The department encourages those interested to apply before the July 30 deadline, as space in the academy may be limited.
The Citizen Police Academy has long served as one of the department’s community outreach initiatives, allowing residents to ask questions, interact with officers and gain firsthand insight into the day-to-day responsibilities of Naperville police.
