Naperville, Ill. — The City of Naperville’s Electric Utility recently achieved a Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) Platinum designation. This award comes from the American Public Power Association (APPA) for companies that provide safe and reliable electric power. The levels of designations from the APPA include Diamond, Platinum or Gold. The City of Naperville congratulated the Electric Utility for this recognition in a Facebook post on June 3, 2025.

The RP3 designation specifically rewards the proficiency of power utilities in four areas: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. Utilities must also have sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable electricity.

The RP3 designation lasts for three years. Naperville’s Electric Utility received the RP3 designation previously in 2020, which lasted until April 30, 2023. A full list of RP3 designated utilities can be found online.
