Morris, IL – The Morris Police Department is reminding residents and businesses that a new city ordinance prohibiting the sale and distribution of several intoxicating substances is now in effect.
According to the Morris Police Department, City Ordinance 4713, adopted on Friday, May 1, 2026, restricts the sale and distribution of a number of substances within the City of Morris. Officials said the ordinance was enacted to promote public health and safety by reducing access to products that may pose significant risks to individuals and the community.
The ordinance includes, but is not limited to, the following substances:
- Kratom
- Kratom extract
- Delta-8 THC
- Delta-9 THC
- 7-hydroxymitragynine
- Tianeptine
- Nitrous oxide
- Other novel psychoactive or synthetic intoxicating drugs
- Similar synthetic intoxicating compounds
Police said businesses operating within the city are expected to comply with the ordinance. Violations may result in enforcement action as provided under the city code.
The department said the reminder is intended to ensure local retailers are aware of the ordinance and understand their responsibilities under the law.
