Glasgow, Montana – Boaters on Fort Peck Lake could face hazardous conditions through 10 p.m. Sunday as strong northwest winds stir up rough waves and pose a risk for small craft.
According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a Lake Wind Advisory remains in effect for much of eastern Montana, including Phillips, Garfield, and Valley counties. Winds are expected to blow steadily from 15 to 25 mph with gusts reaching up to 40 mph by early afternoon, generating wave heights of 2 to 3 feet across open waters.
Communities including Jordan, Malta, Hinsdale, and Glasgow should take note, especially those planning to be near or on Fort Peck Lake. Small boat operators are urged to use extreme caution or avoid going out entirely, as high wind and wave action can capsize vessels not built for rough conditions.
Today’s temperature in Glasgow will climb to a high near 81°F, but breezy conditions and a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms could amplify the lake hazard. Winds are expected to shift southwest tonight before gradually calming early Monday.
Warnings remain in effect until 10 p.m. MDT Sunday. Boaters should monitor local advisories for updates before heading out.
