Billings, MT – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for parts of Montana, Wyoming, and Nebraska, signaling heightened fire danger due to strong winds and dry conditions. The warning is in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. MDT on Monday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Billings, southeast Montana’s Sioux Ranger District in the Custer National Forest, along with Carter and Fallon counties, will experience critical fire weather conditions. A cold front moving through the area will cause shifting winds, increasing the risk of erratic fire behavior.

In Wyoming and Nebraska, the NWS in Cheyenne has issued a Red Flag Warning for fire weather zones 430, 431, 433, 436, and 437, covering areas including the Laramie Foothills, the North Platte River Basin, and the Southern Nebraska Panhandle. West winds will range from 15 to 35 mph, with gusts reaching 55 mph in Montana and 45 mph in Wyoming and Nebraska. Humidity levels are expected to drop between 10 and 15 percent, further fueling fire potential.

Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and activities that could ignite fires. Firefighters and emergency responders remain on high alert as conditions could lead to rapid fire spread.
