Monroe, LA – A Monroe woman was struck and killed in a pedestrian crash Thursday afternoon in Ouachita Parish. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on U.S. Highway 80 near Selman Drive.
Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to the scene. The victim, 53-year-old Avonna Wilson, was walking in the roadway when a westbound 2016 Nissan Altima collided with her. Wilson sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, where she later died.
According to police, the driver of the Nissan was properly restrained and did not suffer any injuries. Investigators do not suspect impairment on the driver’s part, though routine toxicology tests were performed, and results are pending.
Troopers urge pedestrians to take extra precautions when walking near busy roads. Pedestrians are encouraged to wear light-colored clothing, stay alert, and avoid distractions. Motorists should remain cautious when approaching disabled vehicles or pedestrians near roadways.
