La Grange Township, WI – A 14-year-old from Tomah has died after being struck by a vehicle Friday night in Monroe County, marking a tragic incident that continues to impact the local community.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 9:45 p.m. on May 1, 2026, Friday, along County Highway O in the Town of La Grange. Authorities say emergency crews responded to reports of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle. Despite life-saving efforts at the scene, the juvenile succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead.

Investigators say the teen was walking northbound along the southbound shoulder of the roadway with a friend. A truck driven by a 38-year-old Tomah man was traveling southbound at the same time. According to officials, the driver had just passed another northbound vehicle that had slowed down but did not see the juveniles due to headlights. After passing, the driver reportedly observed them but was unable to stop or maneuver in time, striking one of the individuals.

The exact position of the teen at the time of impact remains under investigation. Authorities confirmed the driver stopped immediately and rendered aid until first responders arrived. He is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Monroe County 911 Communications Center, Wisconsin State Patrol, Tomah Ambulance, Tomah Rescue, Oakdale Fire Department, and the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Officials have not released the identity of the victim. The Sheriff’s Office extended condolences to the family and community affected by the incident.
