Springfield, MO – A winter storm warning is in effect across southwest and central Missouri until early Monday morning. Residents should prepare for heavy mixed precipitation, including up to 4 inches of snow and significant ice accumulations reaching half an inch. Gusty winds up to 35 mph and rapidly dropping temperatures could lead to dangerous road conditions and flash freezing overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, the warning will last until 6 a.m. Monday. Affected areas include Greene, Dallas, Pulaski, and Camden counties. Officials warn that roadways, particularly bridges and overpasses, will become slick and hazardous. Travelers are advised to delay unnecessary trips and equip their vehicles with winter essentials like blankets, water, and a flashlight.

By Sunday night, freezing rain is expected to intensify, transitioning into sleet and snow as temperatures drop. The risk of flash freezing will increase significantly into Monday morning. Drivers should exercise extreme caution on major routes, including I-44 and Highway 65, where ice is likely to create treacherous conditions.

Temperatures will remain below freezing through midweek, prolonging icy hazards. The storm could lead to sporadic power outages as ice builds on power lines and tree limbs. Stay updated with local weather forecasts and follow travel advisories to ensure safety during this winter storm.
