Detroit, MI – Cold temperatures and light snow showers are set to impact Michigan starting Monday, bringing lake-effect snow to parts of the Thumb Region and along major roadways such as I-69.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit, light snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are expected, with the highest amounts near Bad Axe and Sandusky. Drivers in cities like Flint, Port Huron, and Ann Arbor should prepare for slick conditions during commutes.

Temperatures will stay below freezing throughout the week, with highs Monday reaching 28°F and lows dipping to 18°F. Wind gusts up to 20 mph may create additional challenges, including reduced visibility during snow showers.

Residents are urged to bundle up as frigid conditions persist. The NWS recommends keeping emergency kits in vehicles, including blankets and flashlights, in case of breakdowns. Homeowners should also check heating systems and insulate exposed pipes to prevent freezing.

The forecast shows no major relief from the cold as the week progresses. Tuesday is expected to be sunny with a high near 27°F, while Wednesday will bring a mix of sun and clouds and a high of 24°F.

For those traveling or planning outdoor activities, staying updated on changing conditions will be crucial. Lake-effect snow patterns can shift, leading to unpredictable localized accumulations.

Plan ahead and monitor NWS alerts for updates. Keep roadways safe by reducing speeds and maintaining distance between vehicles during snowy or icy conditions.
