Missouri – The air feels calm and mild this morning, but clouds and moisture are already lining up for a sharper shift by late Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, Springfield will see increasing storm chances beginning Thursday night, with rain probabilities climbing to 80% and continuing into Friday. Thunderstorms could develop after sunset, bringing lightning, brief downpours, and reduced visibility on roads like I-44 and Highway 65.

Today stays quiet and warm, with highs near 75°F under partly sunny skies. Winds pick up slightly this afternoon, gusting near 18 mph. That warmth builds further Thursday, reaching around 79°F before conditions turn more unsettled.

By Friday, storms become more widespread. Rain and thunder are likely before midday, with additional development through the afternoon. Wet pavement and ponding water could slow the commute across Greene County and surrounding areas. Plan extra travel time and keep headlights on during heavier rain.

Meteorologists are also tracking a broader system across the Plains that may support stronger storms nearby. While severe weather is not guaranteed locally, isolated gusty winds and brief heavy rainfall remain possible.

A short break arrives Saturday with drier skies and highs in the mid-70s. However, storm chances return again Saturday night into Sunday, continuing the pattern of on-and-off spring storms.
