Missouri – Warm air is already building over St. Louis this morning, and you can feel it in the breeze as temperatures quickly climb toward the low 80s by afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, dry and calm conditions early will give way to increasing moisture and instability by late Thursday into Friday, setting up multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms across eastern Missouri and southwest Illinois. The first wave arrives after midnight Thursday, with rain chances jumping to 60%.

By Friday afternoon, conditions turn more active. Rain chances surge to 90%, with scattered thunderstorms likely across St. Louis, Metro East communities, and along major corridors like I-64, I-44, and I-70. Wet pavement and reduced visibility could slow the evening commute. Plan extra time if traveling.

Temperatures stay warm ahead of the system, peaking near 83°F Thursday before easing to the upper 70s Friday. Gusty winds up to 26 mph Thursday may also impact high-profile vehicles on open roads.

Meteorologists now tracking a broader system suggest stronger storms could develop across the central Plains and Midwest. While severe weather risk locally remains limited for now, brief heavy rain and isolated thunder could still disrupt outdoor plans.

Conditions improve heading into Saturday with drier air and highs in the mid-70s. But the break is short-lived. Storm chances return Sunday into Monday, with rain probabilities climbing back to 60–70%. Expect periods of wet roads and slower travel, especially during afternoon hours.
