St. Louis, MO – A dangerous cold front is set to hit Missouri Sunday, bringing subzero wind chills that could pose serious safety risks. Highs are forecast to remain in the teens, while lows may drop to -5°F, with wind chill values as low as -10°F. The National Weather Service advises residents to take precautions, as prolonged exposure to such cold can lead to frostbite or hypothermia.
According to the NWS, the bitter cold follows tonight’s rainfall, which will move southeast of I-44/I-55 early Saturday. Saturday’s high is expected to reach 31°F before temperatures sharply drop overnight to 14°F. Sunday will see sunny skies, but the high will only reach 17°F, with strong northerly winds adding to the chill.
Looking ahead, Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday will remain cold, with highs around 20°F and lows of 6°F. Tuesday is expected to stay cold, with highs near 19°F, before slight warming midweek.
Residents should dress in layers, wear gloves and hats, and limit outdoor time during the coldest periods. Ensure pets and livestock are properly sheltered, and check on neighbors who may need assistance. Drivers traveling along I-70 or I-44 should monitor road conditions as moisture from tonight’s rain could freeze into slick patches by Sunday.
