St. Charles County, MO – Drivers traveling along Interstate 70 in St. Charles County should prepare for a new traffic pattern beginning later this month as crews continue work on Missouri’s major Improve I-70 project.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), all eastbound I-70 traffic between the Foristell weigh station and Wentzville Parkway (mile markers 205.4 to 208) will shift onto newly constructed pavement beginning Thursday, July 23. The changes are weather permitting.
To prepare for the traffic shift, construction crews will remove the existing eastbound pavement to make way for new roadway construction. Drivers should expect nightly eastbound lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with intermittent right lane closures throughout the project.
MoDOT said lanes in both directions will be reduced to 11 feet wide and separated by a concrete barrier wall. Eastbound traffic will move to the left onto the newly constructed pavement, while westbound traffic will remain in its current configuration.
The traffic pattern is expected to remain in place through summer and fall 2026.
The work is part of the Improve I-70: Warrenton to Wentzville project, a $600 million design-build effort to modernize a 20-mile stretch of Interstate 70. The broader statewide Improve I-70 program will add a third lane in each direction across nearly 200 miles of I-70 between Blue Springs and Wentzville. Construction on the Warrenton-to-Wentzville segment is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.
MoDOT encourages motorists to slow down in work zones, obey posted speed limits, and allow extra travel time while construction continues.
