Kansas City, MO – Drivers in downtown Kansas City should prepare for major detours this week as a portion of westbound Interstate 670 and several ramps will close for repaving.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), WB I-670 will shut down from Troost Avenue to 18th Street, extending to the state line, beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 30, until approximately 6 a.m. on Monday, June 2. A second closure is scheduled from 7 p.m. on Friday, June 6, through 6 a.m. on Monday, June 9.

Multiple entrance and exit ramps along the stretch will also be affected, including:

  • NB U.S. 71 to WB I-670
  • WB I-670 to 13th St.
  • WB I-670 to Locust St./Truman Rd.
  • WB I-670 to Broadway Blvd.
  • WB I-670 to NB I-35 and SB I-35
  • WB I-670 to Wyoming St.
  • Genesee St. to WB I-670

Motorists traveling WB I-670 will be detoured via I-70 during the closures.

This project is part of a larger initiative to repave the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-670 from Troost Avenue to the state line. MoDOT reminds drivers to plan ahead and use caution in the work zone. All construction is weather dependent, and work may involve temporary closures for striping, patching, or other maintenance.

For real-time updates and detailed closure information, drivers can visit modot.org/kansascity, follow MoDOT_KC on Twitter, or call 888-ASK-MODOT.
