Calhoun, MI – Man Fatally Shot by Deputies After Pointing Rifle-Style Gun in Incident Involving Potentially Suicidal Subject

Marshall, MI – A 41-year-old Marshall man was fatally shot by deputies Wednesday morning after reportedly pointing a rifle-style gun at law enforcement officers, according to officials.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 10:44 a.m. to a report of a potentially suicidal man at a location in Marshall. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies encountered the man who was allegedly armed with what appeared to be a long rifle-style weapon and pointed it at a deputy.

Deputies reportedly fired during the encounter, fatally striking the man. No deputies were injured in the incident, which is now under investigation by the Michigan State Police and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office of Professional Standards.

Authorities plan to release more information during a scheduled media briefing at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 29, at the Marshall Regional Law Enforcement Center, located at 714 Old U.S. 27, Marshall, MI.

The identity of the man has not yet been released, and it remains unclear how many deputies were involved or how many shots were fired. Investigators are expected to review body camera footage and other evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
