Kansas City, Missouri – A tornado watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday for much of central and northern Missouri, including the Kansas City and Columbia metro areas, as conditions favor the development of dangerous storms this afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Tornado Watch 359 includes 25 counties stretching from Adair and Macon in the north to Cass and Bates in the west. The watch area covers key cities like Jefferson City, Moberly, and Marshall, where rotating thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes, large hail, and damaging wind gusts are possible through early tonight.

Residents in Jackson, Howard, Lafayette, and surrounding counties should monitor weather updates and be ready to take shelter if warnings are issued. High school events and evening commutes could be impacted by rapidly changing conditions and potential storm development along U.S. 63 and I-70.

Stay indoors during warnings, charge your phone in case of power outages, and review your severe weather safety plan. More warnings could be issued as storms intensify. The tornado watch remains in effect until 8 p.m.
