Springfield, Missouri – Rain-soaked roads and afternoon storms could disrupt travel across southwest Missouri by midweek as spring showers return to the Ozarks region.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, multiple rounds of rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected from Wednesday through Friday, with precipitation chances climbing from 30% to as high as 80% by the end of the week. While severe weather is not anticipated, localized downpours could impact visibility and cause minor flooding along low-lying roads.
Cities along the I-49 corridor, including Joplin, Neosho, and Monett, may see scattered showers beginning Wednesday afternoon. Rainfall becomes more widespread Thursday into Friday, especially in Branson, West Plains, and Springfield, where highs will remain in the upper 70s to low 80s. Overnight lows will stay in the 50s to low 60s.
Drivers are urged to use caution during evening commutes and allow extra travel time during periods of heavier rain. Keep mobile devices charged and avoid flooded roadways. While this system isn’t expected to produce dangerous storms, lightning and brief wind gusts remain possible.
Showers may linger into Friday evening before tapering off. Additional updates and advisories may be issued as the system progresses eastward.
