St. Louis, MO – An ice storm warning is in effect for Iron, Madison, and Reynolds counties, with dangerous conditions expected to persist through early Monday morning. Heavy ice accumulations, forecast to range from one-half to one inch, are expected to create hazardous travel conditions and widespread power outages.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the warning is active from 10 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Monday. Snow and sleet may also accumulate up to two inches in some areas, further complicating travel and cleanup efforts. Gusty winds, reaching up to 35 mph, could worsen damage to trees and power lines coated in ice.
Residents are strongly advised to avoid all non-essential travel. Roads, bridges, and overpasses will likely become treacherous, with icy surfaces forming rapidly as temperatures plummet. Those who must drive should carry emergency supplies, including food, water, and flashlights.
The Missouri Department of Transportation has reported that crews are working to treat roads, but conditions are expected to remain hazardous. Updates on road closures and conditions can be found at traveler.modot.org/map or by calling 1-888-275-6636.
To prepare for potential power outages, ensure you have backup heat sources, fully charged devices, and emergency kits on hand. Report power outages to local utility providers immediately but avoid touching downed power lines.
The ice storm is expected to ease by Monday morning, though lingering impacts, including power restoration efforts, may continue throughout the week.
