Springfield, MO – Post-Christmas travelers across Missouri are urged to drive cautiously as dense fog and patchy drizzle continue Friday and into the weekend. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of reduced visibility west of I-49, where conditions may drop below half a mile.
According to the NWS in Springfield, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Friday, with intermittent fog expected to linger through Saturday morning. Rain chances (10–50%) and overcast skies will make for a dreary weekend. Highs will climb to the mid-50s Saturday and Sunday, with some areas approaching 60 degrees by Sunday afternoon.
Drivers should prepare for slow travel and consider using low beams to improve visibility. The NWS advises monitoring weather updates, especially along major routes like I-49, where fog remains heaviest.
Looking ahead, conditions will begin improving late Saturday as the system clears. Sunday brings partly sunny skies and mild temperatures, with highs reaching 59 to 61 degrees. By Monday, dry and sunny conditions are expected to persist, making it ideal for outdoor plans.
Key forecasts include:
• Saturday: Highs of 55–62°F, 30% rain chances by afternoon.
• Sunday: Partly sunny, highs near 59°F.
• Monday: Sunny, highs up to 61°F.
Travelers are advised to allow extra time for journeys and stay updated via the NWS Springfield website for real-time updates.
