St. Louis, MO – Travelers across northeast Missouri and west-central Illinois face dangerous conditions Thursday morning due to dense fog and drizzle. A Dense Fog Advisory, in effect until 9 a.m., warns of visibility dropping to less than a quarter-mile in some areas, posing risks for drivers.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, patchy fog is expected beyond the advisory area. Hazardous conditions could linger into mid-morning, especially along Interstate 70 and other major routes. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, keep headlights on low beams, and maintain extra space between vehicles.
The advisory comes as the region prepares for a wet and mild weather pattern heading into the weekend. Rain is forecasted to begin overnight Thursday into Friday, with highs reaching the low 50s. Friday may bring heavy rainfall, particularly during the afternoon, with southeastern winds between 7 to 9 mph.
Saturday and Sunday should see improving conditions, though scattered showers remain possible. Saturday’s high will hover around 56 degrees before clearing skies bring sunshine and a high of 56 on Sunday. The improved visibility and dry conditions may provide a much-needed respite for post-Christmas travelers.
Despite the gradual improvement, travelers should remain cautious and check real-time updates from the National Weather Service or local traffic apps before hitting the road.
Plan extra time for commutes and holiday travel, and consider adjusting your schedule if possible to avoid peak fog hours.
