Shreveport, Louisiana – Severe thunderstorms are expected to intensify after 6 p.m. Saturday, with the greatest impacts unfolding overnight as tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds threaten power infrastructure and travel along I-20, I-49, and surrounding highways.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a Level 3 out of 5 severe risk covers much of the ArkLaTex Saturday evening into early Sunday. All modes of severe weather are possible, including tornadoes, hail exceeding 2 inches in diameter, and wind gusts over 60 mph. The storm threat will continue through the overnight hours before gradually weakening after sunrise Sunday.

Communities including Shreveport, Bossier City, Texarkana, Longview, and Natchitoches are in the highest risk zone Saturday night. Drivers may encounter sudden road closures, downed trees, and near-zero visibility during intense storms. Power outages could impact thousands if stronger cells develop.

By Sunday, the severe threat decreases but does not fully disappear, with a lower-end risk continuing through the morning into the afternoon. Lingering storms could still produce brief heavy rain and isolated gusty winds.

Residents should have multiple ways to receive warnings overnight, charge devices before storms arrive, and avoid travel during peak overnight hours. Additional alerts are likely as storms organize Saturday evening and track across the region into Sunday morning.
