Richmond, Virginia – Scattered showers could begin impacting the afternoon commute by 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, creating slick conditions along I-95, I-64, and surrounding roadways.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a backdoor cold front is pushing westward across the region today, keeping temperatures uneven across the state. Areas west of the front, including Richmond, Petersburg, and Farmville, will warm into the mid to upper 80s, while the Eastern Shore cools into the 70s before dropping into the 60s later this afternoon.

Showers will develop mainly along and west of the Chesapeake Bay, with isolated thunderstorms possible. Cities including Williamsburg, Tappahannock, and Norfolk could see brief downpours, though rainfall will remain scattered and short-lived. Most areas near I-95 and into northeast North Carolina may stay largely dry through early evening.

Drivers should watch for sudden wet roads and reduced visibility during passing showers. Keep devices charged and monitor for any lightning if storms briefly intensify.

A more widespread round of rain is expected to arrive after 6 p.m. Saturday and continue into Saturday night, bringing steadier impacts across the entire region. Additional updates are likely if coverage or timing shifts.
