St. Joseph, MO – A winter weather advisory has been issued for parts of northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas, warning of freezing drizzle and icy conditions. The advisory is in effect from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, areas including St. Joseph, Atchison, and Maryville could see sidewalks, roads, and bridges become dangerously slippery. Ice accumulation is expected to create hazardous driving conditions during the evening commute.

The advisory extends to portions of north-central and northeast Missouri, where freezing rain could last until early Saturday morning. Up to one-tenth of an inch of ice is forecast in some locations, including Kirksville and Trenton.

Residents are advised to drive with caution, slow down on icy roads, and prepare for potential power outages. Travelers can check the latest road conditions by calling 511 in Kansas or visiting traveler.modot.org for Missouri updates.
