Jackson, Miss. – Scattered thunderstorms could bring damaging wind gusts and hail to parts of Mississippi Monday afternoon as a stalled front moves through the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a marginal severe storm risk covers most of central and southern Mississippi, including cities like Jackson, Meridian, Vicksburg, and Hattiesburg. Isolated storms may strengthen between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m., with hazards including winds over 40 mph and hail up to the size of quarters.

Temperatures are expected to peak in the low to mid-80s across the region, adding fuel to storm development. Columbus, Philadelphia, and Brookhaven could all see highs of 83°F, while storms may dampen parts of Natchez and Greenville during the evening commute. Drivers are urged to use caution on slick roads and stay weather-aware through the evening.

Meanwhile, visitors heading to Gulf beaches should be alert to a high rip current risk through tonight. The National Weather Service in Mobile advises avoiding Gulf waters in areas from Gulf Shores to Pensacola Beach due to dangerous surf conditions.

Storm chances taper off by late evening, but additional updates and advisories remain possible if storms intensify.
