Jackson, MS – A multi-day severe weather event is expected to impact much of northwest and central Mississippi through Sunday, bringing damaging winds, hail, and the potential for isolated tornadoes.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, the first round of storms is expected Wednesday evening between 6 p.m. and midnight. The region faces an enhanced risk for severe weather, especially in areas like Greenville, Yazoo City, and parts of the Mississippi Delta. Storms may produce wind gusts exceeding 50 mph and hail up to golf ball size.
Strong winds are also forecast statewide Wednesday from noon to midnight. Sustained winds between 25-35 mph with gusts near 50 mph could lead to sporadic power outages and make travel hazardous for high-profile vehicles.
Thursday through Friday evening will see continued threats of severe storms, particularly in northwestern counties. Greenwood, Eupora, and surrounding communities are under a slight risk for damaging wind gusts and hail. By Saturday night into Sunday, a broader area including Jackson, Philadelphia, and Brookhaven may experience storm activity, though timing and severity remain uncertain.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, monitor local forecasts, and prepare for possible power disruptions. Updates will be issued as forecast confidence increases throughout the week.
