Minneapolis, MN – A potent late-season storm is delivering heavy, wet snow across western and central Minnesota Monday, with a transition to rain expected across the Twin Cities and surrounding areas by this evening.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, a broad swath of dark blue on radar indicates zones of intense snowfall expanding north and east through the day. Accumulation totals could reach several inches before temperatures rise and rain overtakes the system later tonight.

Residents should prepare for hazardous travel conditions due to slushy roads and reduced visibility during the heaviest snow periods. The snow is expected to be particularly wet and heavy, which increases the risk of injury while shoveling.

Officials recommend shoveling in small amounts, taking frequent breaks, and pushing—not lifting—snow to avoid strain. Dress in warm layers, stay hydrated, and avoid heavy meals just before or after snow removal efforts.

Many areas from Rochester to Duluth and extending west toward Fargo are under winter weather advisories. Conditions will likely improve Tuesday morning as rain clears out, but ponding and localized flooding remain possible.

Travelers and commuters are urged to monitor local forecasts and road alerts for updated conditions through Tuesday morning.
