Saginaw, MI – A winter weather system sweeping across Mid-Michigan is expected to bring snow, freezing rain, and gusty winds to the Tri-Cities and Thumb region overnight into Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac office, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Wednesday for areas including Saginaw, Sanford, Flint, Bad Axe, and Sandusky. Snow will begin late Tuesday night, then transition to freezing rain before turning to all rain by late Wednesday morning. Forecasters warn of 0.5 to 1.5 inches of snow accumulation, a light glaze of ice, and east-southeast winds gusting 25 to 35 mph.
Drivers are urged to prepare for slick roads during the morning commute. Localized ice accumulation could create hazardous travel, particularly in rural parts of the Thumb. The advisory warns that stronger warm air surges may produce up to two-tenths of an inch of ice before surface temperatures climb above freezing mid-morning.
Residents should use caution on untreated roads and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve. Winds may also reduce visibility at times. Officials recommend allowing extra travel time and monitoring for potential school delays or cancellations across Mid-Michigan.
